Accessibility Guide

Basic requirements

  • Stable internet connection capable of video calls (minimum 3 Mbps recommended)
  • Device access: computer, tablet, or smartphone that can run Zoom and other collaborative tools (Miro, Google Drive, Whatsapp)
  • Time commitment: 3 - 4 hours per week for 12 weeks (Live Sessions + peer groups + self-paced work)
  • Language: Comfortable communicating in English (though we welcome use of translation tools)
  • Camera and microphone: for active participation in live sessions and peer groups
  • Quiet space: where you can speak and engage during sessions (we understand this isn't always possible - please do your best)

We recognize these requirements may present barriers. If you face challenges with any of these but are committed to participating, please share this in your application so we can explore possible solutions together.

Accessibility support we provide

During Live Sessions (with all Discovery Journey participants):

  • Live captions enabled in Zoom for real-time transcription
  • Session recordings available within 24 hours for review or catch-up (with participant consent)
  • Chat monitoring: team members actively watch chat for questions from those who prefer not to speak
  • Visual accessibility: presentations use high-contrast colors, large text, and presenters verbally describe key visual elements
  • Clear facilitation: facilitators announce who's speaking and repeat questions to ensure everyone follows
  • Accessible materials: slide decks and resources shared in advance when possible

During peer groups (4-6 participants):

  • Smaller group size creates space for different communication styles
  • Multiple participation modes: speaking, chat, breakout discussions, written reflections
  • Facilitator support: your peer group facilitators are trained to create inclusive spaces and can adapt session formats to meet group needs.

Technical and Language Support

  • Tech troubleshooting: designated support available before and during sessions
  • Translation tools welcome: we enable live translations in written form into your native language during all online calls. We also encourage the use of DeepL, Google Translate, or other tools during sessions.
  • Pre-session resources: Zoom accessibility features guide and platform tutorial videos are available before the kick-off.

We want this journey to work for you. If you have needs not addressed above, please let us know in your application or email us at awareness@socialimpactaward.net. This might include:

  • Sign language interpretation

  • Other needs we haven't anticipated

We'll do our best to accommodate requests shared at least one week before the program begins. We're learning too, so your feedback helps us improve.
